Dr Rehan Haidry, Consultant Gastroenterologist and Clinical Lead for Endoscopy at Cleveland Clinic London, was invited to present the latest results from EURO-TIF — the European registry for Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF) — at this year’s British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) conference.
Led from London, EURO-TIF is the largest prospective registry of TIF outcomes in the world, bringing together data from seven European centres of excellence. Cleveland Clinic London leads the registry, with Dr Haidry coordinating outcomes reporting across participating sites.
Headline results presented at BSG Live ’26 include:
- Over 8 in 10 patients came off their reflux medication (like PPIs). 84.5% of patients had discontinued anti-acid therapy at 6 months, 85.3% at 12 months, and 84.6% at 24 months.
- Sustained, significant quality-of-life improvement. Reflux-related quality of life scores (GERD-HRQL) improved significantly at every follow-up point — 6, 12 and 24 months (p<0.001 at 6 and 12 months) — showing the benefit is not just short-term.
- Objective proof, not just symptom reporting. On-scope acid exposure testing confirmed the improvement: average acid exposure time fell from around 9–10% before TIF to under 2% at 6 months and remained low at 12 months.
- Excellent results for patients with larger hiatus hernias too. For patients needing combined hernia repair with TIF (cTIF), there was 100% technical success and quality of life scores improved by over 30 points (at both 6 and 12 months) and ~7 in 10 patients off medication.
For patients living with chronic reflux (GORD) or silent reflux (LPR), this scale of European data provides real-world reassurance about what to expect from TIF. The outcomes are not from a single centre, but from the combined experience of leading reflux specialists across the continent.
Considering TIF?
Dr Haidry has personally carried out more TIF procedures than any other doctor in Europe, and continues to use this growing body of registry data to give his patients a realistic, evidence-based picture of their own likely outcomes before they decide to proceed. If you’re living with reflux symptoms and want to discuss whether TIF is right for you, Dr Haidry would be happy to talk you through the latest outcomes data and what it means for your own treatment options.
