RESET® Procedure

About RESET®

RESET is a new incision-free endoscopic procedure designed to help patients living with obesity, particularly those with type 2 diabetes, lose weight, reduce blood sugar levels and regain control of their metabolic health.

Unlike traditional bariatric surgery, RESET® is fully reversed after 9 months, meaning long term health complications such as nutrient deficiencies, bone loss and dumping syndrome are avoided.

RESET is minimally invasive and performed as a day-case procedure, offering a new pathway for patients who have struggled with medication, such as weight loss injections or insulin, but are seeking a less invasive solution than full bariatric surgery which changes their gastric anatomy permanently.

Questions and Appointments

What is RESET®?

RESET is a thin, flexible sleeve that is endoscopically placed in the upper small intestine, also known as the duodenum. Once in position, it creates a temporary barrier between food and the intestinal wall, reducing contact with the receptors that influence blood sugar, hunger hormones, and fat absorption.

This mechanism mimics the hormonal effects of gastric bypass surgery, but without incisions, permanent anatomical changes, or long recovery times.

Who is RESET® for?

RESET is intended for patients with:

  • Obesity
  • Uncontrolled type 2 diabetes
  • Other weight-related metabolic issues
  • Poor response to medication or insulin
  • A desire to avoid irreversible surgery

Clinical studies show RESET can lead to:

  • Significant weight loss (average 17–19% body weight reduction)
  • Improved blood sugar control (HbA1c reduction of around 1.6%)
  • Reduced insulin dependency, with over one-third of patients able to stop insulin altogether

What to expect?

  • Placement: RESET is placed via endoscopy under general anaesthetic. No incisions through the abdomen are required.
  • Duration: The device remains in place for 9 months
  • Removal: RESET is removed endoscopically in a short outpatient procedure.
  • Recovery: Most patients return home the same day and resume normal activities within 24–48 hours.

Safety

RESET has been used in over 3,000 patients globally and has recently been granted its CE Mark, which means it meets the European Union’s health, safety, and environmental protection standards. The most common side effects are mild gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, bloating or abdominal discomfort in the first few weeks. Rarer complications may include device migration, bleeding, or infection — all of which are treatable and reversible. Patient compliance in the first few weeks after Reset are critical.
