Endoscopic Weight Loss Procedures
Dr Rehan Haidry was one of the first endoscopists in the UK to carry out Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) and also offers the Intragastric Balloon (IGB) treatment.
Intragastric Balloon (IGB)
An IGB is a soft silicon balloon-like device is positioned in the stomach using an endoscope. It is passed into the stomach through the mouth and filled once in place with around 500ml of liquid. The balloon can remain in the stomach for up to 12 months depending on the device. The IGB is then removed via another endoscopic procedure. It is a very safe and effective minimally invasive procedure for weight loss. Patients first experience rapid weight loss and this then levels at and can be maintained with a healthy diet and exercise.
Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG)
Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) works by reducing the size of your stomach using an endoscopic device which can suture, removing the need for surgery. The ESG procedure gives the stomach a tubular shape and minimises the amount patients can eat before they become full. The procedure takes around 90 minutes and patients are usually able to go home the same day. Patients should feel fuller quicker when they eat and experience rapid weight loss, followed by steady maintenance.
