POSE
What is POSE?
POSE is an innovative non-surgical technique used to treat obesity through stomach reduction.
It is an endoscopic procedure and Dr Haidry is currently the only endoscopist in the UK carrying out this new and highly effective procedure. The POSE procedure is a minimally invasive option for treating obesity and helping patients to lose weight for the benefit of their health.
POSE is an effective new treatment for obesity. The process involves making folds in the stomach to reduce its capacity. This means patients feel fuller faster and can reduce their calorie intake and lose the weight necessary to improve their health.
BEFORE POSE
AFTER POSE
How does the POSE procedure work?
The POSE procedure is a minimally invasive endoscopic treatment.
The endoscope is passed down through the oesophagus and into the stomach. The endoscopist then makes careful folds in the stomach, with no incisions needed. These folds serve to narrow the stomach and with this reduction in size, patients feel fuller from smaller amounts of food. The folds also slow the movement of food leaving the stomach, this helps patients feel fuller for longer.
The procedure usually takes no longer than 45 minutes and is carried out under general anaesthetic.
Side Effects of POSE
Patients may feel a some soreness and swelling to the throat, which is a usual side effect of all endoscopic procedures and nothing to be overly concerned about.
Patients should be able to get back to their normal day to day activities within a few days of the procedure.
How Successful is POSE?
POSE is a brand new, exciting innovation in weight loss procedures.
With this in mind there is not a huge amount of data to work from when looking for success rates. The procedure has been received and tolerated well by patients so far and most begin to see weight loss within the first four weeks after the procedure. That new feeling of being full sooner is also an immediate result.
As with all treatments for obesity, the success is highly dependent on a commitment to healthy eating, appropriate exercise and where necessary, nutritional counselling.
Recovering after the POSE Procedure
Patients are usually back to work and their day-to-day activities within a few days of the procedure.
You will have a specific diet to follow for the first few weeks after the procedure and this will be vital for getting used to the new lifestyle that comes alongside the change inside. Further follow up appointments can help to support the patient’s journey and guide them if they have any concerns.
Dr Rehan Haidry is the only endoscopist in the UK who currently offers the POSE procedure. Patients with obesity can be referred to Dr Haidry and this may be an option available dependent on individual circumstances.
